Acesulfame K
Acesulfame K, or Ace K, is a non-nutritive artificial sweetener.
Description
Acesulfame K is used in food and beverages for taste and texture improvements. It is a low-calorie sweetener for such products as soft and instant drinks, chewing gums, gelatins, pudding desserts, and baked products.
Acesulfame K is
- roughly 200 times sweeter than sucrose (common sugar);
- as sweet as aspartame;
- about two-thirds as sweet as saccharin;
- one-third as sweet as sucralose.
It does not break down under high temperatures and so can be used in processed food and in cooking.
Acesulfame K is widely used in the production of such food as chewing gum, candies, desserts, sauces, alcoholic beverages, baked goods, syrups, and yogurt.
Acesulfame K can also be used in cosmetics for oral and facial care.
