Mono Propylene Glycol (Food Grade)
Mono propylene glycol (MPG) is an important ingredient for a multitude of food applications.
Description
Food-grade propylene glycol is commonly used as:
- Solvent for color, flavor, and aromatics improvements in food, especially in the flavor-concentrate.
- Humectant in foods and in semi-moist pet food (except for cat food).
- Preservative and stabilizer in bakery goods.
- Flavor modifier in case of combining citrus flavor with other emulsified flavors.
- Ingredient for liquid products when there’s a need to ensure low-temperature heat-transfer in fluids involving indirect food contact, (eg. brewing and dairy products).
MPG is generally recognized as safe for use in food and is successfully used in the production of such foodstuffs as alcoholic and nonalcoholic beverages, fruit juice, baked goods, confectionery, candies, dairy products, meat products, processed vegetables, snack foods.
