Monosodium Glutamate
Monosodium Glutamate is used as a seasoning agent.
Description
Monosodium Glutamate (MSG) powder is primarily a flavor enhancer, and it is widely applied as a seasoning agent. MSG is helpful in intensifying and balancing different flavors and in obtaining a meat-like or savory flavor. When used as a seasoning agent, the general dosage is 0.2%-0.5%.
MSG is also used in the pharmaceutical industry for medication (biochemical reagents) production because glutamate is essential for improving and maintaining brain function. So, they can also be used as brain nutrients. In addition, drugs containing MSG might be used to prevent liver coma and epilepsy.
Another application of MSG is organic synthesis intermediates. The proportion of these applications is very small, such as in osmotic membranes, silk protein modification, leather auxiliaries, biomedical materials, modified regenerated collagen fibers, and so on.
