Sodium Hypophosphite
Sodium hypophosphite is the sodium salt of hypophosphorous acid.
Description
Sodium Hypophosphite’s mainly use in electroless nickel plating, which is an auto-catalytic process more often used to coat high-performance metals and plastics with nickel-phosphorus.
Sodium Hypophosphite dehydrates nickel ions in a watery solution, reducing the substance to metallic nickel, hence coating these metals and plastics. This reaction makes it particularly helpful for coating irregular surfaces.
Sodium Hypophosphite is often used for this application in particular in aviation and in the oil field.
